The Birmingham Bound House, an official SXSW event, was a dynamic showcase of Birmingham’s innovation, culture, and entrepreneurial spirit. Held during South by Southwest (SXSW)—a world-renowned festival and conference that brings together the best in film, music, and interactive media every March in Austin, Texas—this immersive experience introduced attendees to Birmingham’s vibrant future.

We partnered with Birmingham Bound, an initiative dedicated to strengthening Birmingham’s tech ecosystem and making it a premier destination for growing and scaling tech companies. Together, we transformed the event space into an immersive reflection of Birmingham, creating a welcoming atmosphere that showcased the city’s diversity, innovation, and thriving tech industry.

A Day of Inspiration

Designed to showcase the Magic City’s energy and forward-thinking spirit, this immersive event introduced attendees to Birmingham’s thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem. Guests explored engaging tech activations, exclusive giveaways, and insightful discussions with local entrepreneurs, civic leaders, and business innovators, all highlighting the city’s unparalleled resources and supportive community. Through panel discussions and presentations, they discovered how Birmingham fosters collaboration between startups and established companies, creating a vibrant environment for growth and innovation.

Birmingham’s Best: A Fusion of Flavor and Rhythm

Ryan Westover, chef and founder of Pizza Grace in Birmingham, shared his journey as a business owner, offering attendees an inside look at his craft. During a live interactive cooking demo, the James Beard-nominated chef revealed his expert techniques and signature recipes, giving guests a taste of his culinary artistry.

DJ Gina Tollese electrified the atmosphere with her dynamic sets throughout the day, infusing the event with vibrant energy and creating an unforgettable soundtrack for new connections.

Birmingham natives, the Banditos, took the stage next, delivering a powerhouse performance. The lead female musician, channeling the spirit of Janis Joplin, commanded the crowd with her powerful vocals and magnetic presence, leaving a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.

Birmingham-based brands were prominently featured, including spirits and beverages that showcased the city’s dedication to local craftsmanship. A custom engraving station, provided by Amanda Reid Designs, allowed guests to personalize power banks, symbolizing the theme of “getting plugged into the Birmingham community.” This experience highlighted Birmingham’s commitment to fostering connectivity and supporting its growing tech scene. With an active schedule of SXSW events, attendees greatly appreciated the opportunity to recharge with mobile charging banks that powered their connections throughout the event.

A cutting-edge Virtual Reality experience from a Birmingham-based business added an exhilarating, hands-on element to the pop-up, captivating attendees eager to immerse themselves in the world of next-level technology. The innovative experience sparked curiosity and excitement as guests explored the future of virtual reality firsthand through an exhibit that explored Birmingham’s history of diverse leaders and innovators.
